Discussion
- Weed Committee – Jeanne Fraser
- Chinese Snails
- Tons of these non-native snails were found in the Angle Pond. The state doesn’t know if they damage the lake. The best way to deal with Chinese snails is to use a screen covered rake to collect them and remove them from the lake.
- Cat-O-Nine Tails
- These are very good for the lake and they act as filters
- Other weeds
- Bladderwort Bloom (native plant) is prevalent on the lake and will be all summer due to the mild winter. Bladderwort can easily be raked out of the lake. This weed can be added to compost or burned.
- Milfoil
- The fact that there is no public boat access on Angle Pond helps reduce the risk of milfoil, but lake users are advised that if boats on Angle Pond are taken to other lakes they should be thoroughly washed prior to putting them back in the water at Angle Pond. The runoff from washing the boats should not be allowed to run into Angle Pond.
- Action Items
- See website for more information on plants and snails.
- Contact Jeanne if interested in volunteering to help monitor.

- Water Quality – Brant Sayre
- Water Quality
- After the water samples were tested in June/July/August 2015 the Angle Pond water quality on the lake was reported as “satisfactory” by the state. The lake has been tested for over 10 years it is doing very well. In one area, transparency, it is even getting better and has increased from 3’ to 4’ when tested with a scope. 2.5’ to 3’ is normal transparency for most NH lakes.
- Action Items
- Contact Brant if you want copies of any of the information sheets.

- Guest Speaker – Bill Tapley, Sandown Fire Chief
- Chief Tapley encouraged town residents to call the Sandown Fire Station if an emergency occurs in a home or on the lake. The local fire fighters have trained for ice and water rescues. Divers are available to assist persons/vehicles in an emergency on the ice. The Fire department can also help to mitigate any oil leaks. Until the fire department arrives, individuals are encouraged to “help don’t hinder” any rescue situation. The fire department can also be called if there are cars parking in non-public areas. They will contact the police to get the vehicles towed if found in violation. Bonfires can be held between 5pm and 9pm and you need a seasonal permit. The fine for burning a bonfire without a seasonal permit is $2000. Please make sure you put out all campfires. 9 homes were lost in 2016 to brush fires.
